Docklands Yacht Club overlooks Victoria Harbour with sweeping views of the Melbourne City skyline and the ever changing Docklands precinct. From January 2016, sailing will take place from the 60 metre pontoon at our new premises - the Community Boating Hub, 912 Collins Street, adacent to the Library at Dock Square. Community Sailing days are normally the second and fourth Sunday of each month year round from 11am but are subject to change (check Calendar page for more details). Everyone is welcome. We supply the boats, lifejackets and instruction.
Penultimate Short Course racing day held
The penultimate round of the Docklands Short Course regatta was conducted on Sunday in lovely conditions.
10 boats took to the water, with several sailors racing for the first time. Fresh from towing boats back from the Hansa Class Nationals, Tasmania’s Rob Eadie also joined the sailors for the day’s 5 races.
The wind was fairly consistent, around 8-10 knots across the day, with some stronger gusts keeping the sailors focussed.
In the 303 fleet, Beck West almost had a perfect scorecard on the day, before being pipped in the second race of the day by Louis Patterson. Our other 303 sailors, who were new to racing, got the hang of the starts and all steadily improved across the day.
Similarly, in the Liberty field, Russell Phillips was heading for a clean sweep, but was beaten in the last race by his wife Shauna!
The final Short Course series will be held on Sunday May 15th.
