10th season of Short Course Racing dates announced

by DYC

The Docklands Yacht Club Short Course series resumes on Sunday 23rd October.

Started in 2007, this annual series of races provides a perfect start for new sailors to learn about racing and for more experienced sailors to hone their skills.

Scheduled on one Sunday per month through until May next year, the Short Course Series is open to Hansa 2.3, Hansa 303, Liberty and other classes. Sailors may register to compete in any race or the whole series.

The first race day is Sunday October 23rd. Future dates are November 20, December 18, January 15, February 19, March 19 and May 21.

Short course racing is a great fun way to get a start or progress in racing and provides plenty of practice with starts and mark roundings.  It helps to develop skills, technique and rules knowledge while enjoying some friendly competition.  On most days, 4-6 short races of 10-20 minute duration are conducted.

The Series provides an ideal preparation for sailors competing in the George Mac regatta (Dec 3 & 4) Royal Brighton Yacht Club, Sail Melbourne (December 6-10) at Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron and the Asia Pacific Hansa Class Championships (April 14-17) at Royal Geelong Yacht Club.

Informal training and coaching may be available in the mornings before racing.  A limited number of club boats are available for members and visiting sailors (visitors pay a small fee). Sailors may also bring their own boats.

The Notice of Race (including fillable entry form) is available below.
