Docklands Yacht Club overlooks Victoria Harbour with sweeping views of the Melbourne City skyline and the ever changing Docklands precinct. From January 2016, sailing will take place from the 60 metre pontoon at our new premises - the Community Boating Hub, 912 Collins Street, adacent to the Library at Dock Square. Community Sailing days are normally the second and fourth Sunday of each month year round from 11am but are subject to change (check Calendar page for more details). Everyone is welcome. We supply the boats, lifejackets and instruction.
Results for Day 1 of Australia Day regatta
Competitors in the Docklands Yacht Club Australia Day Short Course Regatta have completed their first day on the water.
Yesterday, a coaching clinic was held with some theory, followed by on-water drills, buoy roundings and practice starts.
All agreed that the coaching clinic and tips were a great help for newcomers and to brush up the skills of our more experienced sailors who are a bit rusty following several months away from sailing due to our move to our new building.
Constant drizzle cleared to bright sunshine yesterday and conditions were similar on today's first racing day.
11 competitors took to the water in Hansa 2.3's, 303's and Liberties.
The wind conditions were varied and shifty across the day, with the experienced sailors picking the wind shifts successfully.
Cadeyrn Gaskin showed the fleet a clean pair of heels in the 2.3, as did Russell Phillips in the Liberty division. Competing in his first regatta, new DYC member Ben Meade saved his best sailing for late in the day, finishing 2nd and 3rd in his last 2 races.
Results are closer in the 303 fleets, with DYC members Beck West and Christine Elliott battling it out against Latrobe Valley Yacht Club's Sarah and Craig Millsom.
Docklands sailors will travel to Latrobe Valley Yacht Club next weekend to compete in the Victorian Hansa Class Championships.
Conditions look good for another day's racing tommorow at DYC. Full report and photos to follow.
